Eco-efficient management of resources in industrial plants for sustainable manufacturing

Objectives

The main objective of the project is to develop a system that enhances energy efficiency and resource optimization in industrial processes. For this, a platform for the capture of the resource consumption data (energy, water, etc.) of the different equipment used in the industry will be developed by means of standard communication protocols. The integration of this platform into a middleware based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) will in addition permit the integration of existing modules in the industry and will facilitate the integration of others to be developed in the future. The development of this system and its integration into the existing production systems of each industry will allow the implementation of the "sustainable manufacturing" concept, thereby reducing energy consumption and environmental impacts..

Results

The final result of the project consists on a tool for the improvement of energy efficiency in the industry. This tool is based on an architecture, supported in standards that include measuring devices adapted for their integration with other existing components, a interface for the measuring devices that provides bidirectional access to them, and the possibility of integration with MES, ERP and Environmental Management Systems through the middleware (which permit to link with costs information, production planning, etc.). The tool will storage the energy consumption and other resources data and will be able to perform the representation and analysis of the consumption information in real time, generating indicators and dashboard of energy consumption that will be used for supporting the decision-making. Thanking to this tool, for example, the use of consumption information will be used as additional criterion in the planning of production operations, or the detection of malfunctioning machines based on consumption will be possible.
