ENGINEERING PROJECT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A WASTE TO ENERGY PLANT FOR MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTES (MSW) IN BELMEZ (CORDOBA)

Client: NUEVA ENERGÍA E INNOVACIONES ENERGÉTICAS S.L

Objectives

The objective of this project consisted on the design and development of the engineering (basic and detailed) for the construction of a waste to energy plant for Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW) using the plasma gasification technology in the municipality of Belmez, in the Province of Cordoba, Spain.

Results

As result, the engineering project and permits processing for the construction of a waste to energy plant of 130.000 Tn/year of MSW were carried out. The plant was designed to produce 41 MWe of electricity in combine cycle, of which 10,25 MWe would be used for auto-consumption, and 30,75 MWe would be exported to the grid. As subproduct, an inert and non-leachable slag with properties for being used as construction material was obtained. This slag was suitable for brick manufacturing, tiles manufacturing, jewelry, road construction, etc. The plant was designed for 8 working hours per day, 7 days per week, and 330 days per year.
